Spam: Messages, including advertising, received via the Internet and which the user has not requested.

These annoying messages pop up nearly all the time in our virtual inbox.
These messages are dangerous if you do what they say.
They could lead you to viruses, malware, rootkits and having your computer being hacked.
As well as having all your money stolen from your bank account.
So avoid these messages and do not listen to anything it says.

You could download an anti-spam software which will block the spam from sending you messages.

Research more on Anti-Spam and you'll find a solution to terminating those little critters!

Now your inbox is clean and safe from spam.
This is the end of the Glossary Term.
We will soon add more posts

Hidden Advertising:  A form of advertising that we may not be conscious or aware of.

Ah, hidden advertising. The term basically means that the product is advertised but not obviously shown.

An example would be in a random movie.
There are three kids, sitting on the streets, eavesdropping on a conversation near them. They are pretending to be playing some video game.

Of course, in this scene, the audience would also focus on the conversation. The hidden advertising is the Nintendo DS that the three kids are playing on. We may not notice it but it is an example of hidden advertising.

I think it's a pretty smart way of advertising, even though some viewers may not notice it and focus on something else.

The last term of the Glossary Terms is Spam.

Target Market: A specific demographic or social group to which an advertiser wishes to appeal.

Companies will aim for a specific group when advertising their products, so those certain consumers will be grabbed and pulled into their trap.

A simple example is a Barbie doll.
Now who would want that?
A child from ages 3-10 might want that. Then that is the company's target market. The gender would mainly be female. The target market would be girls aged about 3-10 because they like toys which are 'girlish' or are pretty.
So how does this Target Market thing work?
The girl sees it on TV, thinks it's pretty and asks her parents to buy her one. They head to the shops and purchase it.
There you go. A product of the company is solved!

There are lots of specific groups so that means there's something for everyone!

The next term we will be discussing about is Hidden Advertising.

Self-Regulation: Ethical standards and complaint resolution procedures put in place and maintained by an industry group.

I guess this is the standards which help you when you are not satisfied with their product and you want to complain.
An industry group tries to solve your problem so everyone is happy.

So if you're unsatisfied with a product, send a complaint.
Self-Regulation is there with you.

The next term is Target Market. This will be quite important when shopping so stay tuned.

Niche Marketing: Promotional campaigns targeting quite small groups of potential customers.

This is pretty much the opposite of 'Mass Marketing'.
I'm not quite sure which one is really effective, but I assume Mass Marketing is the better choice. Companies are trying to promote products to as most consumers as they can right?

Perhaps the companies' want to aim for the customers who really want or need such product?
I do not know well but we shall see, in this world of business.

Mass Marketing: Promotional campaigns targeting a large proportion of the population.

Like the definition says. Promotional campaigns targeting a large proportion of the population.
This is quite effective because it means more consumers will hear about their company or product.

This is it for Mass Marketing. The next term will be Niche Marketing.
Note: The length of the explanation will differ based on our knowledge of the term. So we apologize for any inconvenience.

Market Research: The gathering of information about the needs and desires of potential consumers.

Basically, the companies find what you, the consumers need or want so they can create a product where you'll likely buy it.
Whatever way they are doing it, it's a benefit to us consumers as we do try to find some products that we need or want.

The picture below should be able to explain how market researching works.
The next term we will be discussing about is Mass Marketing. See you next time!
All pictures belong to their rightful owners.

Focus Group: A group of potential consumers, chosen at random, who give their opinions about a campaign developed to promote a particular good or service.

This is picking a group of people who try out the product and give their opinions about it.
You might see this on those channels which only show advertisements about particular products and is repeated for hours.

Of course, the companies would only take the positive opinions about the product so it'll promote the good or service.

Telemarketing: The promotion of goods and services via the telephone.
Everyone has had those phone calls from overseas, saying that you have won a holiday overseas!

I think this is some sort of scam really.
I've been having calls from India about winning a holiday to New Zealand.
That's impossible because I didn't apply for any competition nor was even interested in going overseas.

It is promoting goods and services which is effective but it is usually a scam.
So if it's hard to believe, close the call.

Sponsorship: Brand strengthening via the funding of elite sporting personalities and teams.

This is commonly seen when watching sport teams play against each other.
An example would be the company Toshiba Australia, sponsoring the Parramatta Eels.
In return, their company would be more known around the country.
You would see their company's name on the sport player's T-shirts.

This is common and effective as focusing on the players, consumers would notice the companies' seen on their shirts.
